Garden of Reflection taking shape
Chris English (Intelligencer)
Every day, Lower Makefield resident Susan Corcoran walks by the site of the Garden of Reflection Bucks County Sept. 11 Memorial to check the progress of construction.

Monday's walk, on the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, was especially meaningful for Corcoran, who lives in the nearby Heather Ridge development.

“I was watching television and heard the name of one of the victims of the attacks [Paul Beatini] who I went to high school with in northern New Jersey,” said Corcoran. The two were classmates at Dumont High School in Dumont, N.J.

As she talked, a cement truck turned and workers laid sidewalks and worked on other parts of the Garden of Reflection, which is scheduled for a Sept. 30 dedication.

“When I heard that name, it just got me to thinking and I had to get out for my walk and think about things,” Corcoran said. “We need to remember this day. It's part of our culture now and part of the history our kids will be studying about in school. It will be with us every day.”

The Garden of Reflection is being built on a small piece of Memorial Park, on Woodside Road near Lindenhurst Road, in Lower Makefield. Among other elements, it will consist of a pool with two fountains representing the destroyed towers of New York's World Trade Center, and a railing with panels inscribed with the names of the 17 Bucks County victims of the attacks.
